I just found this awesome website called STRAVA that allows you to compete against others in a time trial over a certain areas. For example lets say that there is a 2 mile road and it's considered a section, everyone that rides that section's time is put up on the website. Then you can try to get a better time than the best time. It sounds like a ton of fun. Also it will justify my purchasing a race focused road bike (Which I've decided on a Specialized Tarmac SL4 sport).

Oh well I live in louisiana, so I don't have to really worry about going against lance armstrong. But I think going up against people like that would inspire me a bit more. I mean I'm buying a bike that can go about 85% of what a professional bike can do so it's not like I could make excuses as far as equipment goes (unless we're talking about those crazy time trial bikes).

I think I might buy a garmin edge 500.

I've been using Strava for over a year now. Great App... I'm not trying to win any races, just track my progress, although I was KOM on one local segment for a few weeks... Fun stuff. Just be careful not to get too reckless trying to beat the KOM.
